Science may provide an advantage over provinces not as proficient in those fields. The amount of science available is measured in Books of Knowledge: the more, the higher the benefits. This knowledge can be acquired through gold coin investment, Schools, and Learn Attacks. The primary funding for science is investment. The cost of the Books will drop over time, as scholars share knowledge and assist each other. Libraries help reduce the cost of Books of Knowledge, and protect them from enemy incursions. Schools are a natural source of wisdom and their students will generate a few general science books daily, which in turn can be used to support any Field of Knowledge. The quality and quantity of science books turned out can be enhanced by the Mind Focus spell. Learn attacks give the ability to steal knowledge from enemies and, simultaneously, to weaken theirs. Such attacks may be an excellent option to expedite the learning process. Regrettably, science books will be lost when enemy wizards cast the Amnesia spell upon the target province. Fields of KnowledgeThere are seven Fields of Knowledge: alchemy, tools, housing, food, military, crime, and channeling. Each field researched will help improve a province in the area chosen. Investment can be applied to a few fields or distributed evenly among them. Books of Knowledge acquired through Learn attacks cannot be reassigned: they will be added to existing fields. AlchemyAlchemy is the art of transforming hard metal into gold. Knowledge in this area will help increase daily tax revenues and income up to roughly three and a half tenth. ToolsBetter tools create workers that are more efficient. Research in this field will improve the efficiency of all buildings by up to about one and half tenth. HousingQuality of housing is important and peasants will thrive wherever good living conditions exist. Investing in this field increases the amount of housing without adding more land by up to approximately one tenth. FoodFood science improves the quality of crops and the yield from the farms up to double their normal capability, potentially making space available for other buildings. MilitaryLearning how best to manage the military and to improve strategy and deployment, results in higher gains when invading enemy lands, up to about one and half tenth. CrimeThe efficiency of a thief guild, in both offense and defense can be improved dramatically, and doubled, by investing in this field. ChannelingKnowledge in this field increases the wizards' ability to cast spells, the amount of damage inflicted, as well as the amount of runes produced by towers up to double.

Non-attacking role may decide to invest time and effort in Crime & Deceit, or Channeling, but should not invest in Military science, for example. |
